Thirty-One Days of Proverbs, Day 1

My pastor recently handed out to his congregation a devotional that he authored titled, "Thirty-One Days of Proverbs, 31 Days of Devotions by Pastor James Reid". Since there are thirty-one chapters of Proverbs, it is a good book to read through in a month. It would probably be easier to keep track if one were to start on the first of the month, but since I'm not the most patient person in the world, I decided to embark upon my first reading tonight, the sixteenth day of the month.
If you don't mind, I'd like to share my thirty-one days of reading with you.
At the bottom of each day's page, there are the same six questions or statements to be answered. My impression is that the reader is to use these questions to guide his/her prayer time after reading the passage of the day. The questions/statements are as follows:
Today I read this passage:
Today I learned from the passage:
Today I am thankful for:
Today I praise God for:
Today I ask God for:
Today I claim this prayer promise:
Now that last one had me a little stumped and I had to ask a friend what my pastor meant by that statement. A prayer promise is a particular scripture verse that you claim in your prayers. For example, my prayer promise today will be this one from the passage I read today; Proverbs chapter 1, verse 5: "A wise man will hear and increase learning. A man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels." So my prayer will be, "Lord, today I claim Proverbs 1:5, that if I am wise, I will hear and increase learning; that if I am of understanding then I will attain unto wise counsels." And when the prayer is answered I can take note of the date in which it is answered. (Today's prayer promise might be a difficult one to assess as to when the prayer is answered. What humble man is able to determine for himself whether or not he is wise?)
Let me just clarify that this public journey is, in no way, an attempt for me to make my prayers public, as the Pharisees were known for doing. I simply would love to inspire others to take the journey with me because I think we'll come out at the end of the thirty-one days having learned much and having been so blessed, we just won't want to keep it to ourselves! I look forward to sharing this time with my readers!
So, with no further ado, I present to you today's devotional. If you would like to take part in the thirty-one day devotional journey with me, I'd love to hear about it and how you've been blessed over this month-long exercise! To God be all the Glory, Praise His Precious and Holy Name!
