I'm Going to Blow Your Mind - I Am a Proud Christian Flat Earther (I Kid You Not), Part 2

Rather than state everything already said in Part 1 of this series, I will just continue on where we left off:
The Heavens belong to God
Scripture tells us that no one has ascended up into Heaven and that the heavens belong to God while the earth is given to men.
Proverbs 30:4 - Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
John 3:13 - 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
Psalm 115:16 - The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth is given to the sons of men. (It’s pretty hard to deny this one. Can man just stumble into Heaven in a spaceship? I think not! He can only get there by invitation (so to speak) by God! Notice it says the heavens, plural. That means that ALL the heavens belong to God. Not just the one where He resides with the angels. He allows us to wander around the heavens inside the firmament, obviously, but as we’ll see below, that firmament will prevent us from going any further.)
The Bible says we'll go to the stars?
A round-earther gave me Obadiah 1:4 as proof that God told us that we’d go to the stars, but this is a very biased reading of God’s word.
Obadiah 1:4 - Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord.
This passage speaks about someone setting their nest among the stars. Now, a nest is a place where you live and raise young. Did this round-earther expect me to believe that one day we will live in space when scripture clearly states that the heavens belong to God? These verses are comparing arrogant men to proud eagles who make their nests up on high.
Verse 3 states: The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
This chapter has nothing to do with people going to outer space, it’s simply making a reference to man’s arrogant nature that God will bring down.
Able to look down and see the entire earth from heaven
How can God “look down” and see the entire earth if it’s a globe? I know, you can bring in the ole “God can do anything” explanation, but God says Himself that He is not the author of confusion. I find it hard to believe that He, who wants us to know Him by His handiwork, would put such confusing language in His word, when the simplest way we are to first know God, absent a Bible, is through His creation.
Job 28:24 - For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven.
Psalms 19:4 - Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, 5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. 6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
Daniel 4:10-11 - Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. 11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
Matthew 4:8 - Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Isaiah 40:22 - It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.
1 Corinthians 13:12 - For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
This one is vague and some may think it’s a stretch, but I am convinced that this verse is not only figurative, but also literal; speaking of the firmament and that we see Heaven through a glass (the firmament), but He sees us perfectly. But one day, when we, the born-again saints, slip from this life into eternal life, we'll finally see Him perfectly too...because the glass, the firmament, will not be separating us anymore.
Spheres can’t be spread out
This is another one that boggles me that I have to explain, but man is always looking for the hard answer to things, when quite often the simple is right there and acceptable. You can’t spread or stretch out a sphere and still have it be a sphere. You just can’t...unless you apply funny logic that can’t be demonstrated in any sort of experimentation. (Remember, God wants us to know Him, how could we know Him if His word describes things about our earth that we just never see in nature??)
Psalms 136:6 - To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Isaiah 44:24 - Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;
If the earth were spherical, one would [logically] use a verb other than "spread out" to describe its creation (balled up, gathered up, gathered together, anything but spread out). One might say they "spread out" batter to make pancakes but no one would ever say they "spread out" hamburger to make meatballs. The earth in the Bible was "spread out" because it is flat. (This explanation here I did not come up with myself, but I no longer know where I found the quote, so forgive me if the author of it ends up somehow reading this...I did not intend to plagiarize!)
The firmament is firm
Job 37:18 - Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
Stars are not enormous
Matthew 24:29 - Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mark 13:25 - And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
Revelation 6:13 - And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
How can the stars “fall” to earth if they are a gazillion miles from us and there are a gazillion times a gazillion number of stars? They would not be falling, they would be shooting towards us. I guess in a round-earth scenario with a gazillion stars out there, we’re going to be buried underneath all those stars! And I guess some will fall upward to somehow land on the bottom of the globular earth.
God makes it very clear in scripture that we are not to use our words idly (Matthew 12:36) so why would God use such careless words so we’re not able to understand them? He did not use careless words. They just seem careless because we have come to the Bible with a scientific bias rather than as a child with no biases. The only reason why we insist the Bible supports a round earth is because we insist on believing science rather than the Bible on this matter. We believe what we think our eyes have shown us more than we have faith in what God has clearly told us! That is not how it works, it is not how any of this works!
Differing “glories” of the heavenly bodies
1 Corinthians 15:40-41 - There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
The moon has its own glory, it does NOT reflect the light of the sun!! Even if you are unable to accept that the earth is flat, you should clearly be able to see now that God’s word paints a far different picture of how the earth and heavens operate than science tells us it does!
Possible eclipse explanation
Other bodies in the sky we’re not told about shielding the sun and moon during eclipses? Interesting topic for further research. Only mentioned if you’re intrigued enough to study further.
Psalms 84:11 - For the Lord God is a sun and shield.
New Jerusalem
New Jerusalem is going to “come down” from Heaven. On a globe earth, which way is up and which way is down? Is it going to come down over Israel? Then it won’t be coming down at all, but in from the side, because Israel is kind’ve on the side of a globe earth. Is New Jerusalem going to land on the North Pole? Is God really so sloppy with His language? Is it even practical for God to have New Jerusalem coming in from the side in order for those in Israel to perceive it coming “down” on them?
Revelation 21:2 - And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 3:12 - Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
Other verses to consider
Psalm 148:44 - Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. (This verse was written AFTER the flood, indicating that there are still waters above the heavens, which also indicates that there must be something of substance holding the waters back; like, for example, an impassable glass-like firmament.)
Proverbs 8:27-29 - When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: (Globes do not have faces. “The waters do not pass his commandment” - the waters do not fall off the earth because He’s placed a barrier around them called Antarctica to keep them in.)
Psalms 104:7-9 - 7 At thy rebuke they (the flood waters) fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. 8 They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them. 9 Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth. (Again, the ice barrier of Antarctica?)
Isaiah 48:13 - Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together. (Uh oh! One day the foundations are going to stand up!)
2 Corinthians 5:1 - For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
The bottom line is, this world is not our home. It’s going to perish one day and we’ll live in a new earth and a new heaven. But that doesn’t mean we should dismiss this topic as not important. We’re talking about God’s very own creation here and it’s a big deal in scripture; spoken about quite a lot, as you’ve seen above. If we can’t humble ourselves to accept God’s word over science, what does that say about our walk with God? I’ve eaten crow over this topic. I ignored it for as long as I could because I, too, did not want to believe it. God would not allow that kind of thing from someone who claims to love Him and want to know all truths and reject all lies. God demanded I research this, and, even though I beg Him to correct me if I’m going off on the wrong track, all I ever receive from Him is more scripture to show me that I’m on the right track.
Now, either I’m a very weak and easily deceived Christian and God has not granted my constant and fervent prayer to never allow myself to believe a lie or half-truth, or I’m right and am one of the few who is willing to make myself look like a fool just so I can stand on God’s truth.
You will have your opinions on which of the above scenarios are true. I pray God’s opinion is the latter rather than the former.
Do you know, if you were to die today, whether or not you'll go to be with Christ after you die? Are you 100% and completely assured of your salvation?
